Enclosures

An enclosure is a melodic technique: you aim for a stable tone, such as a chord tone, and build tension and motion by playing the notes around it before resolving onto it. A chromatic enclosure approaches from a semitone above and below; a diatonic enclosure uses the neighboring scale degrees instead.
