Timbre
The unique character of a pitch when played on different instruments
Two instruments can play the same fundamental frequency, and so the same pitch, yet sound completely different. That difference is timbre. It comes from the shape of the amplitude envelope and the overtones present from the harmonic series. With pitch and amplitude, timbre is one of the three properties that together describe a sound.
