Song Writing

Planning out a piece of music before presenting it

Song writing is story telling. It is improvisation that you don't move on from as quickly, in hopes of better expressing yourself. It is revisited and carefully crafted for as long as it takes. Unlike improvisation where the deadline is always right now, there is no need for immediacy, or for a linear progression through the piece. You can start with the chorus and end on the intro, and the version people hear is distilled through the entire process. You may tweak every part continuously, and the piece may morph as you write it.
